Satyamev Jayate popularised the concept of simulcasts when it was televised at the same time on over nine channels in different languages. Now, the latest ‘big thing’ is airing international shows concurrently in India. What that means is that you watch the episodes of an international show on an Indian channel around the same time as its international telecast, so you don’t have to wait for months before watching the show in India. The second season of the American reality show, The X Factor, will be seen on Big CBS networks barely a day after its US showing, starting September 14.

Anand Chakravarthy, executive vice president, marketing, Reliance Broadcast Network Limited, says, “We are targeting premium audiences with the concurrent telecast. We wanted to offer Indian viewers the latest from global entertainment, and in today’s digital era, hardcore fans would have watched the show online much before the Indian telecast a few months later. I think this might become a norm in the industry as audiences are demanding concurrent content from around the world.”
