Shakti Mohan quits dance TV show

Shakti Mohan, the winner of Dance India Dance (DID) 2010, and lead actor in Channel [V]’s popular dance-based soap Dil Dosti Dance, has quit her debut show. She will soon head to New York to sharpen her dance skills. Having learnt the ropes under choreographer Terence Lewis, she took the tough decision to quit her show and chase her dream to learn dance at the Broadway Dance Centre in the US.
But Shakti hopes her exit won’t affect her show, adding that she’s thankful to the producers for understanding her dilemma. “I appreciate their support, but I feel quitting is a harsh word to use. I am simply moving on,” she says.
Shakti explains, “Learning dance in New York is the ultimate dream for any artiste, including me. Earlier, I couldn’t go, as it was too expensive and then Dil Dosti Dance happened. But soon, I realised I am not getting any younger, and I should make the most of this time.” After winning DID, she took a break, before signing on to the TV show.
Though the course will only last three months, and include training in styles from ballet and hip-hop to contemporary, she hasn’t decided if she will return to the show. “I didn’t want to keep such an option open, and feel like I am indebted to return. I want to learn as much as I can, without any prior commitments,” says Shakti, who has trained in Vienna too, adding, “The success of Dil Dosti Dance has proved that dancers need not be limited. I am proud to be one.”
How will her exit affect the show? “While some fans are supporting me on Facebook, others are angry as they feel I shouldn’t leave. I feel bad, and I don’t want the show to be affected by my exit.” Shakti’s character Kria will officially be written off the show in mid-Feb.
