The super hit sitcom Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai was refreshing change for the audience who were tired of the formulaic comedy. We talk about what else worked for the show.

Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai aired in 2005 was a runaway hit. It is still remembered for the commendable comic timing of actors Ratna Pathak Shah, who played Maya Sarabhai, and Satish Shah, who played Indravadan Sarabhai.

But it wasn’t just the performances but also the refreshing format of the show. Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai played on the dynamic of the saas-bahu equation- Maya and Monisha, played by Rupali Ganguly. Maya always cribbed about her daughter-in-law and her habits, which made for some interesting episodes. The relationship between Maya and her two sons were funny as well and the intelligent one-liners always hit the bull’s eye.

As it was a finite sitcom, the quality of jokes or funny scenarios didn’t get diluted and neither did the success of the show. The cute romance between Monisha and Dr. Sahil Sarabhai, played by Sumeet Raghavan, and the antics of the younger son Rosesh Sarabhai, played by Rajesh Kumar, were loved by the viewers too. Actor-turned-director Deven Bhojani’s worked hard on the script and the performances.
