India on Friday asserted its support to Bangladesh’s judicial process to address the war crimes committed during the independence movement of 1971.
“India has been supportive of a judicial process under the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh to address the pending issue of justice for war crimes committed during the movement for the independence of Bangladesh in 1971”, external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.
He said the process to bring the perpetrators of war crimes to justice “has wide popular support in Bangladesh”, adding it is also an internal issue of Bangladesh.
Pakistan’s National Assembly passed a unanimous resolution condemning the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali. The resolution moved by Sher Akbar Khan claimed the execution of Jamaat leaders is contrary to the tripartite agreement signed by Pakistan, India and Bangladesh in 1974.
Bangladesh foreign ministry last week had summoned acting high commissioner of Pakistan in Dhaka protesting Pakistan foreign ministry’s statement following the execution of Mir Quasem on September 3.
