On top of the danger list was the sofa. The stairs came second in the danger list, followed by the car and the shower.

The bedroom was found to be only the fifth most dangerous place to make love.

Two percent of the 1,000 adults in the poll by phonepiggybank.com were left with broken bones after sex.

One in 10 people said he or she had fallen out of bed during sex and one in 50 admitted to tumbling off a washing machine during passionate moments.
