The number was written by songwriting duo Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller, who composed the Presley hit "Hound Dog" and many other pop classics.

It was the title song of Presley's third film "Jailhouse Rock" in which he played an ex-convict who becomes a teenage rock star.

Among the week's five other new entries, "The Number of the Beast" from British heavy metal band Iron Maiden hit the charts at number three.

Another anniversary reissue, the 1982 rock anthem was released to mark 25 years since Iron Maiden's formation.
