Former UN employee sentenced in jobs fraud

A UN spokesman says the world body is pleased a federal jury has ordered a former security employee to pay it $128,153 in restitution for fraudulently holding concurrent jobs at the United Nations and the US National Labor Relations Board.

A federal jury convicted Jeffrey K. Armstrong in October. He was sentenced Friday to pay the restitution and serve 18 months in prison.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said Wednesday the United Nations cooperated with US authorities on the case.
The US justice department says Armstrong earned about $160,000 annually as assistant chief of the UN Security and Safety Service in New York while concurrently earning $121,000 annually as a security employee for the NLRB in Washington.
