Gunmen kill Yemeni soldier, injure 7 others
Gunmen have killed a Yemeni soldier and injured seven others in attacks against two military checkpoints.
A security official says gunmen have killed a Yemeni soldier and injured seven others in attacks against two military checkpoints.
The official says authorities suspect Al-Qaeda because the attackers employed tactics often used by the terrorist organisation. He says the gunmen opened fire with machine guns before dawn on Saturday and then followed with rocket-propelled grenades. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to talk to the media.
The official says the military checkpoints are located 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) apart in Yemen's eastern province of Hadramawt and were attacked within two hours of each other. It is not immediately clear if the same attackers were involved in both incidents.
