Chinese President Hu Jintao will meet newly re-elected US President George W. Bush at an economic forum later this month against the backdrop of a "volatile and changing" situation in the Taiwan Strait, the government said on Friday.
Hu will be making his debut trip to Latin America for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Santiago, Chile on November 20-21, and also will visit Brazil, Argentina and Cuba, Vice Foreign Minister Zhou Wenzhong said at a press briefing.
At the APEC meeting, Hu will present an initiative "to improve cooperation in terms of energy resources, developing new energy, and energy poverty alleviation," Assistant Foreign Minister Shen Guofang told reporters.
"The aim is to create an energy environment that will benefit all parties to deal with the challenges in the fluctuations of the energy market and the rise in the oil prices and achieve sustainable development," he said.
