External affairs minister SM Krishna will formally inaugurate the $ 10 million new Indian embassy complex in Beijing during his private visit to China starting on Tuesday.
Though it is a private visit, Krishna is expected to meet his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi.
Krishna's visit will be mainly devoted to inaugurate the new sand stone structure on Wednesday. Besides inaugurating the building, Krishna would also attend a cultural event at the new auditorium in the embassy premises.
It is the first time that India has built its own Embassy building with a distinctive Indian look ever since New Delhi opened its mission in Beijing in 1950s soon after the formation of People's Republic of China (PRC).
The previous embassy was located in a bungalow.
Indian officials have already moved into the building which also has few staff quarters.
Krishna's meetings are still being worked out, a top Indian official said.
Some of senior Chinese officials were also expected to be present during the inauguration of the building.
