Senior Maoist leader Matrika Yadav told Hindustan Times that people of Nepal should now be prepared to welcome veteran republican Ram Raja Prasad Singh as the first president of Nepal.
“For several decades, he (Singh) has been fighting to end feudal monarchy and transform Nepalas a republic,” said Yadav, adding that there cannot be any stronger candidate than Ram Raja Prasad Singh to be the president of the country. Seventy-two-year old Singh born in Saptari district in eastern Terai and was imprisoned at the age of 6 years because of his father’s participation in the fight against Rana oligarchy. Singh, who was strongly inspired by his father Jaya Mangal Prasad Singh struggle for democracy, and did his masters in English literature from Patna University.
