Russia is prepared to provide any assistance to the US in overcoming the catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, a senior Russian official has said.

"Russia is prepared to provide any assistance the US may require, but we have not heard from them yet," Russia's Deputy Minister of Energy, Stanislav Svetlitsky said.
"This problem is everybody's concern, of course," he said."The consequences of the accident were touched upon in the speeches of representatives of Japan, Mexico, Canada and the United States."
They show "there is no clear picture of the situation or the actions the US plans to undertake," he added. "It is too early to speak about the reasons as the investigation is still in process."
"We expect a report from our American counterparts," Svetlitsky said. "We shall reconsider the ecological and technological expertise of the projects in the Russian Federation."
The agenda of the ministerial meeting, includes energy security, efficiency and saving. The participants are expected to adopt a joint declaration. The declaration items, which will be based on suggestions from Japan, the chair over this year, will be considered over the preparations for the APEC summit due in Yokohama on November 13-14.
The with Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum unites 21 countries, including Russia, China, the USA, South Korea and Japan. Russia has been taking part in the forum since 1997 and will host a summit in Vladivostok in the Russkiy Island in 2012.
