Pradeep Kumar, the chief fire officer (Gautam Budh Nagar), said that the fire department got information about the blaze at around 12:30am.

“The fire broke out at a two-storeyed polycarbonate byproduct factory in Kasna. Initially, five fire tenders were pressed into action and later 10 more fire tenders were sent as the fire spread quickly. The plastic materials inside the factory were highly combustible and the fire spread in no time,” CFO Kumar said.

It took the firefighters more than 10 hours to douse the flames completely and the cooling down process was underway till Saturday afternoon, fire officials added.

“Around 40 people were inside the factory at the time of the incident but everyone managed to escape. The workers told us that they were carrying out some testing work on a power panel located at the ground floor that led to a short circuit. The fire quickly spread to the first floor as well,” CFO Kumar said.

Fire officials said that the factory operates 24 hours and the owner is yet to assess the exact damage due to the blaze.
