“We deliver pizzas everyday. It was quite relieving and satisfying to hand over a kidnapped boy safely to his parents,”

It was the sheer presence of mind of delivery boys employed with the Dominos outlet on VIP Road, Zirakpur, that helped the five-year-old boy ‘kidnapped’ by a carjacker reunite with his parents.

The incident took place in the Sector-20 market late Tuesday night when the couple along with their son had gone to buy ice cream.

Harpreet Singh, 20, who works at Domino’s Pizza, said, “We were about to close the outlet when a customer told us that someone driving a car dropped a child outside. It was 10.45pm. The child was crying. We brought the child inside and contacted people from nearby areas about him, but got no clue.”

“Then we saw that the child was carrying his father’s bank passbook which had latter’s contact number,” he said.

Harpreet said they first called on the number but it was not available. This was at 10.55pm.

“When we entered the number in our database, we found that the family once bought pizza from our company outlet in Sector 20, Panchkula,” he said.

Sensing there was something wrong, they took the kid to the Sector-20 police station. “We were happy when we found the boy’s parents at the station.”

It was 11.20pm by then.

Harpeet’s colleague Surender Singh, 30, said they were quite pleased that their effort finally paid off.

“We deliver pizzas everyday. It was quite relieving and satisfying to hand over a kidnapped boy safely to his parents,” he said.

Top bosses showering praise

Harpreet Singh said that they are getting a lot of congratulatory messages from company top officials. “Punjab circle head Jatinder Sharma and HR head Mohsin Saifi specially called to praise our efforts. The company also uploaded our photo on their Facebook page that has already received more than 9,000 likes,” he said.
